Silent Film Revolution 2019

September 2019 will mark the return of South West Silents and (as always) we have plenty to offer you over the coming few months. So much in fact we cannot tell you all about it right now!

But what we can tell you is that September, October and November are going to be incredibly busy. We start off with our regular open day at 20th Century Flicks where we take over their two mini cinemas and screen the best shorts by Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton; in fact the pair go head to head on the day with our Chaplin V Keaton: Open Day. We also return to celebrate Bristol’s film heritage by celebrating William Friese-Greene with our Friese-Greene beer produced by Dawkins Ales. More info about the day and who was William Friese-Greene here.

Our Silent Women Film Pioneers series continues as well with the launch of our Alice Guy-Blaché strand which includes special intros by Pamela Hutchinson and Meg Morley on piano. The strand was launched at Cinema Rediscovered 2019 and happy to say that a number of film festivals have picked this new strand up and we will posting dates in the near future.

Other events planned are very much centered around two themes for this Autumn; we have a special season set around ‘The City and Silent Film’ as well as a series of screenings set around ‘The Silent Films of the Weimar Republic’. Both of these seasons will include brand new restorations and all will come with live musical accompaniment.  We are also incredibly lucky to join forces with Bristol Festival of Ideas, BFI, Cube Cinema, Curzon Cinema and Arts and Watershed to celebrate the best films from the silent era and bring in a torrent of fantastic silent film titles.

So, for now, we recommend you mark the dates up and book your tickets where possible and do keep yourself ready for a ‘Silent Film Revolution’ throughout September, October and November 2019!

As always, a big thank you to everyone involved and even more news soon about #SilentFilmRevolution #SilentFilmRev very soon. Spread the word!
